Chili
Promotions and track owner Louie Caltagarone announced that they have
teamed up again to bring the Chili 100 for Late Models back to
Hummingbird Speedway for the second consecutive year.
The 9th Annual Chili 100 will be held on
Saturday September 20, 2008
, and the event will be run in honor of the late Sue
Mathews. Sue was an integral
part of the Chili Promotions group, as well as a strong supporter and
fan of the local racing scene. Sue
spent many years as an employee at
Hidden
Valley
/
Gamblers
Raceway
Park
, and was also involved with several of the past Chili
100 events. Janney Flora,
promoter of the Chili 100 stated, "We are thrilled to have the
Chili 100 back at Hummingbird Speedway for 2008.

Last years event was a great success, and we are
looking forward to doing it all again this year.
Sue was a great friend, and very well liked by everyone, so it is
an honor to hold this years Chili 100 in her memory.
She will be deeply missed, and I think this is a great way to
remember Sue." The 9th
Annual Chili 100, which is named after Ms. Flora's pet
Chihuahua
, Chili, will once again feature the Late Models
competing in the area's only 100 lap event on the 1/3 mile oval at
Hummingbird Speedway. Since
the first event in 2000, the Chili 100 has seen a veritable who's who of
local and regional dirt late model stars compete in the unique 100 lap
event. Over the past eight
years, the race has been held at area short tracks including Clinton
County Speedway, Ace High Speedway,
Gamblers
Raceway
Park
, and present host Hummingbird Speedway.
The Chili 100 has never seen a repeat winner as Jeff Rhine, Luke
Hoffner, Bud Witmer, Ron Kline, Carl Billet, Al Brewer, Mike Altobelli
Jr., and Chris Farrell have all taken home the checkered flag in the 100
lap event. Last years event
at Hummingbird was presented in front of a capacity crowd, and saw local
hot shoe Chris Farrell of Clearfield charge from the rear of the field
to take the win, after a lengthy battle with regional favorite Luke
Hoffner, and the 2007 Hummingbird track champion Dave Shagla.
The 2008 edition of the Chili 100 is sure to continue the great
tradition that has made this event one of the areas most anticipated
late season specials for drivers and fans alike.
Heat races and consolation events will determine the starting
field for the 100 lap feature. You can find more information about the
Hummingbird Speedway on their web site www.hummingbirdspeedway.com
Racing
Racing is the exhileration, the sweat, the heartache, the feeling of
victory, and the pain of defeat. Racing is preparing the racecar with
friends, changing tires, making last minute decisions, and the
excitement that builds with each passing lap. Racing is rivals,
friendships, good times, laughter, and memories that will last a life
time.Racing is the agony of a bad crash, and the inspiring feeling of a
well deserved win. It is the knowledge, dedication, and loyalty of pit
crews and drivers.Racing is not only a sport...it is a way of life.
You
become so caught up in the drama of it all, that it becomes a vital part
of you. The competition takes you in, until you eat, breathe, and live
racing. You love the smell of the fumes when you start up the engine for
the first time after a long winter break...You love drawing up a new
body design...You love working on the car in the middle of February,
imagining how beautiful it will be on the track. Racing is in you...
