PLEASE NOTE: I did not get the complete results for the mini-sprints. The Midwest MiniSprint Association took care of the payout since this was their show with 1000cc minis running with Waynesfield 600cc minis. All they could give me was the feature top 10 finishers. Sorry but this was all I have to post.

It looked like rain was coming early in the day on Saturday but it turned into a beautiful night for racing at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. With four different classes of racers scheduled to compete, the fans and drivers alike were treated to great racing on another smooth and tacky fast dirt bull ring. With all the cars there to compete, the night went amazingly smooth and the final checkered flag flew before 10:30 pm.
The Waynesfield Tuff Trucks were the 1st of the four classes to take to the track for their feature event. #33 Mike "the enforcer" Hicks has proven the last couple of seasons that his white and black Ford Ranger is a tuff truck to beat. It was bad news for the rest of the trucks when the invert put Hicks on the pole to start the race. Hicks led every lap of the feature to score his 2nd win at Waynesfield this season. Mikes brother Chris Hicks has been doing a fine job this year in his rookie season racing trucks. Chris drove his #71 Ford truck to a strong 2nd place finish on this night with #18n Derrick Noffsinger rounding out the top three. Truck heats were won by Mike Hicks, Chris Hicks, and Bill Keeler.
When the Winged 360 Sprint Cars took to the track for their feature event, #11 Tim Allison was on the pole with #17 Jared Horstman along side. It took a few tries to get the race underway but once going the 20 laps went green the entire way. So far Tim Allison has not had the best of luck while competing at Waynesfield. This night would prove different for Allison. As the green flag waved to start the race, Allison jumped into the lead and pretty much went unchallenged the entire time. #35 Ron Blair was quite impressive as he worked his sprinter up to 2nd place but could never get close enough to Allison to take a shot at the leader. 18 Year old Jared Horstman had a strong showing in his orange #17 sprinter to hold on for a 3rd place finish. This was Tim Allison's 1st feature win of the year and career 1st win at Waynesfield. Allison has alot of experience in his racing career. This became his career 90th sprint car feature win. Tim told me in victory lane that his goal is to win 100 feature events before he retires from racing but the current level of competion makes each win hard to come by. Horstman, Allison, and Blair all recorded heat race wins earlier in the evening.
The Midwest Mini-Sprint Association brought in 1000cc racers to compete against the Waynesfield 600cc mini-sprints for the first time in 2008. The 1000cc cars ran seperate heat races and b-main events from the Waynesfield regulars but the mini-sprint feature lined them all up together in competion. Multi-time winner #20 Jared Horstman started on the front row with his 600cc car. Horstman's car seemed to stumble a bit as the green flag signaled the start of the race and he immediately dropped to 3rd place. #22 Brian Broughton soon worked his 1000cc car into the lead and set a face pace as the leader. Horstman's car seemed to run fine after he got going and soon he took over 2nd place and began to set out after Broughton. Horstman relied on his many laps of experience at Waynesfield to catch and then take the lead away from Broughton as the leader had a little bit of trouble working his way past lapped traffic during the 18 lap green flag run. As the flagman was about to display the white flag, a car flipped upside down on the front straight bringing out the red flag. After the young man exited his crashed racer uninjured, the track was cleared and the cars lined up for a two lap dash to the win. The red flag proved to be the biggest factor of the race for Horstman. With only 2 laps to the finish and no lap cars in the way, Broughton used the stronger motor in his 1000cc car to power past Horstman and go on to win the showdown. #86 Andy Bradley finished in the 3rd position.
The UMP Modifieds were the final feature race of the night. #112 Chris Ullery jumped into the lead as the race began. Ullery was only able to hold the point for about four laps when Ada Ohio's Jon Henry found a way into the lead. Henry has been on a tear this season. He had won the last three feature races at the various dirt tracks he competes at. Henry would again be the class of the field and go on to win his 4th race in a row. Chris Ullery was running a strong 2nd until he spun off the track midway thru the race. This incident left #45p Brian post in the 2nd spot. Post had one of the best runs of his career holding the 2nd position until #64 Gary Richards got around him on the final lap to take 2nd and drop Post into 3rd at the finish. Modified heats were won by Henry and Post.
Waynesfield's weekly race program continues on 6/14/08 with four classes of racers in action. Non-wing sprint cars, 600cc Mini-sprints, UMP Modifieds, and the Waynesfield Tuff Trucks will all be competing. Gates open at 4:00pm with racing starting at 7:00pm.
