The warm and sunny weather helped bring a good crowd of fans to the quarter mile high banks in Ohio. The non-wing sprint cars, 600cc mini-sprints, UMP modifieds, and Waynesfield tuff trucks would provide the entertainment for the night. The 600cc winged mini-sprints would be the first feature to finish the season. Sam Ashworth had his car repaired from a crash that sent him flipping out of the lead position last week and wanted to finish the year on a winning note. Ashworth quickly powered into the 1st position when the race got underway. The youngster pulled away from the rest of the field and it soon began to look like he would claim his 2nd win of the year at Waynesfield. Jared Horstman started deep in the field and has steered his mini-sprint to many victories in the last couple of years. Horstman held the pedal to the metal and passed cars one by one as he progressed towards the front. Ashworth had built a comfortable lead but as the race wound down, Horstman seemed to be counting the laps. As the white flag signalled the final lap, Horstman caught Ashworth and would get only one chance to steal the victory. Horstman made his move in the final turn and slid by Ashworth to edge him out at the finish line. Horstman was hootin and hollerin as he climbed from his car in victory lane. Brad Munz from B rad Racing Supply greeted Horstman in victory lane to present him with the extra $100 that he added to the winner's share. Sam Ashworth finished 2nd and Garry Loney rounded out the top three. Loney and Ashworth were the mini-sprint heat winners. Corey Smith got a front row starting spot for the sprint car feature event and that is bad news for the competion. Smith has been making the trip all the way from Kokamo, Indiana to race at Waynesfield and he comes to win. Smith would grab the lead at the start of the race and embarrass the rest. Smith had a full straight away lead over Tony Beaber and Joss Moffatt, who finished 2nd and 3rd, at the finish line. Sprint car heat winners were; Beaber, Smith, Moffat, and Luke Hall. Dallas Hewitt won the sprint B-main event. Jimmy Snead was taken to the hospital after a violent flip in hotlaps. Latest reports say that Snead should be released from the hopital on Monday. Mike Hicks has been the man to beat in the Waynesfield tuff trucks this year and Saturday would be much of the same. It didn't take Hicks long to get into the lead and he would stay upfront all the way to the checkers. Matt Twining was able to get near Hicks a couple of times but couldn't get around him. Twining held onto 2nd place with Scott Higbea finishing in 3rd. Twining, Hicks, and Derrick Noffsinger won the truck heats. Ralph Shackelford won the truck B-main. The UMP modifieds always put on some of the best side by side racing at Waynesfield. Jeff Babcock knows how to work the high side of the bullring. Babcock would ride the rim past everyone to take the lead and earn his 3rd victory of the year at Waynesfield. Eddie Shaner drove a great race to follow Babcock across the finish line with Davey Gantt finishing 3rd. Mod heats were won by Brian Post and Mike Roediger The staff at Waynesfield Motorsports Park would like to thank all of the racers and fans that have supported our weekly racing program in 2008. A year end racing banquet is being planned for the beginning of November. Please check our website for further information.

Did anyone see Mike Brecht in that 97 car Saturday. He started 7 out of 8 cars in his heat and made the show in 4th position. Then started 13th in the feature, but made it up to 5th. Looked like to me he was about the only passing that night and the thing I heard in the grandstands was his Seeling car had a 360 in it. Wow passing cars who were all 410's! The Seeling team sure had things setup that night! Just shows what that team is made of and can accomplish. I think that would be a great ride and team combination with Brecht and Seelings! Great job!!!

I heard that to, but never heard why for sure it fell through. Maybe since it was a thought last year it will be a reality for 2009. It would be a good thing for him and Seelings that is for sure! Something needs to happen to make both Seelings race team and Mike Brecht look better than this last year. Nothing seem to pan out for either of them, but I believe put them together each will show what they are made of. We have already seen it more than once! Amazing what happens when you put the right combinations together!
