Waynesfield, Ohio July 30th (story by SkinnyKennysPhotos) The weather was a perfect 85 degrees and the sun was shining as a new record of 130 cars filed their was into the pits at Waynesfield Motorsports Park Sat July 30th. The Mini-sprints were the first to take to the track for their a-main feature event. Salem, Indiana's Jeremy Ingram started on the pole in his green #4 mini-sprint. This was Ingram's 1st trip to the 1/4 mile dirt track in Waynesfield. His 4 1/2 hour journey was well rewarded as he took the green flag and never looked back. He lead every lap and finished ahead of #59 Kirk Jefferies and #1w Craig Weber. Jeff Babcock again drove his white #7b stock car to another win at Waynesfield followed by #78 Greg Knoch and the orange # 71 of Barney Craig. Then, as he has done two other times this season, Babcock jumped into the black #7b modified and blew away the rest of the field to win both feature events. #33 Davey Gant finished 2nd in his modified on his 1st trip to Waynesfield this year. The blue #21 Stan Smith finished 3rd in his Ford powered modified. Derrick Noffsinger #81, Luke Katterheinrich #17, and Dylan Burkheimer #7 put on one heck of a show in the truck division. The 3 trucks exchanged positions and a little paint for most of the 15 lap feature. In the end Noffsinger held off Katterheinrich and Burkheimer for the win in a very exciting close finish. 16 Year old Kyle Simon celebrated his birthday in style winning his 1st ever sprint car feature. The young man drove his black #23s like a seasoned veteran in route to the win. #71 Thomas Briggs finished 2nd and #7 Dustin Trost finished 3rd. #4 Nate Mailhot won the compact feature followed by #54 Thom Wooten and #32 Kirk Jefferies. There will be NO RACING at Waynesfield Speedway on Aug 6th. Racing will resume on Saturday Aug 13 with all 6 division including the $500 to win Compact 500. Kenny:

Is the Simon boy from Covington OH?....Also, who's car was Tommy Briggs driving?

BTW......the end of your story has the wrong month listed as the 'week off' and the big Compact race....

Thanks!

Yes Kyle Simon is from Covington. Briggs was driving a bright neon orange #71 but I don't know who owns the car. Thanks for noticing....I corrected the date.

Tommy Briggs and his father own the car he was driving. That was his second time out in the car I think he was a lot faster then Kyle was. Kyle just never faultered. he drove an awsome race. Tommy was very nice to Kyle. He could have punted him a time or two.

Thanks for the replies fellas! I knew there was a Simon from Covington that helped a guy named Fortney with a USAC sprinter in the 70's...Jerry Poland drove that car.... Mr. Simon's son then drove a sprinter a few years back...but I think he switched to mods....is Kyle the mod drivers son? racechaser: I had heard Tommy and Big Tom had bought a dirt car. I figured he was in somebody else's car...Tommy has run #10's since his Kart days. They also have a pavement car (ex Kenny Irwin Jr. car), but it is only legal to run in the Little 500 because of it's wheelbase measurement. And I'm pretty sure thay still have the midgets too. I wonder how long the dirt car will be #71 before it gets renumbered to Tommy's familiar #10....lol... [This message has been edited by 1 Fast 83 (edited 08-01-2005).]

Tommy told me that they never changed the number after they bought the car. They just put a motor in it and went racing. I asked the same question. Were is the#10? They still have all there midgets. Kyle Simions is not the son of Chris, He is the one who drove the E-mod, Kyle is Steve's son. Steve drove the car a few years ago. Then Matt Westfall drove the car, then Jimmy Stinson dove it here recently. Steve and Chris are brothers. Both Steve and Chris both have driven for there father.

Cool.........Bub told me Briggs' had a dirt sprinter...but that was quite a while ago, and I hadn't heard that they had it out yet....till now...LOL... I need to go to Waynesfield again, and see Tommy at work.

I couldn't remember the name of the Simon that drove the sprint a few years back...there is a right sideboard from a wing hanging on the wall at Mark Knupp's in Piqua, when he sponsored that car....

OK then... Kyle, is Chris Simon's nephew.

Matt drove the Simon's car quite a few times...but this year he has driven for the Daughtery's, and their own #54.
