108 Race cars were in the pits at Waynesfield Motorsports Park on Sat August 27th to compete in the final race of 2005. The 1/4 mile track in Waynesfield Ohio may only be finishing it's 3rd season of racing, but this track had tremendous success this year. Every week had more than 100 cars supporting the track.
This week was a special event for the non-wing sprint division. To thank all the sprints for their support; track owners Greg and Tammy Shobe payed $1000 to win the sprint feature. 22 Sprint cars took to the track for the feature event.
The black #34 of Luke Hall was definately one of the favorites to win due to his success at Waynesfield this year. #7 Dustin Trost and #4m Jamie Miller have also had great seasons at Waynesfield this year and these young guns were also looking to cash in during the finally. All 3 of these guys were in the top 5 through out the entire race. Luke Hall was the first to make it to the checkered flag and win the $1000. #7 Dustin Trost was 2nd followed by #6c Cub Burden.
In the stock car class, The familiar white #7b Jeff Babcock used his experience at Waynesfield to win another race. Babcock has more than 60 career wins to his credit and has been a dominate force on the Ohio dirt tracks this year. #j3 John Sanford and # 42 Tim Rostorfer put on an exciting show as the battled throughout the race for the 2nd spot. In the end, Sanford finished 2nd followed by Rostorfer in 3rd.
Jared Horstman pulled away from the field in his orange #20 minisprint to go unchallenged for the win. #4x Brent Harmon had a good run finishing in 2nd place ahead of #0 Hershel Wills. Brent Harmon was a feature winner earlier in the season but Horstman was the star of the field tonight.
The modified division saw #67 Rob Stanbaugh make his 1st visit to Waynesfield. as the green flag waved, Stanbaugh and #7b Jeff Babcock put on a thrilling battle for the lead. For 9 laps the 2 cars crossed under the flag stand side by side. On a lap 9 restart, Stanbaugh got the jump on Babcock and streched his lead to 2 car lengths. Babcock tried everything in his bag of tricks to close the gap but Stanbaugh proved to be superior on this night. #16 Brad Powley had another respectable run to finish 3rd.
As the trucks took to the track for their final race of the season, the drivers were ready to give it their best to earn the $500 1st place money. #81 Derrick Noffsinger and #31 Dan Kelly have been 2 of the hottest trucks in the division this year. In a contest that saw many yellow flag delays, the #81 and #31 trucks ran side by side in a dogfight for the lead to delight the crowd. As the laps wound down, Kelly drove a perfect line to hold of Noffsinger for his 3rd win this season. #9 Bill Harmon passed more trucks than anyone thought possible as he needed to restart from the tail due to being involved in a caution early in the race. Harmon finished 3rd making everyone realize that the #9 truck will be a contender when the 2006 season begins in the spring.
The staff at Waynesfield Motorsports Park would like to thank everyone for our successful season. I want to personally thank minisprints point leader #18 Tim Viles for allowing the track photographer to enjoy a few laps behind the wheel of his racecar. Story by SkinnyKennysPhotos
