6/3/06 Waynesfield, Ohio
Saturday June 3rd at Waynesfield Motorsports Park made for an interesting night of racing. As the heat races were underway, black clowds began to move in with lightning being seen on the horizon. Soon the rain began to pour and it looked like the racing program may come to an end for the night. However, the staff at Waynesfield was determined to get the show in. A great field of sprint cars were on hand for the special show paying $1000 to win. After the showers stopped, the push trucks took to the track and ran the racing surface in. After the nearly hour delay, the racing resumed.
Aaron Moloney had finished in the top 5 with his mini-sprint every week at Waynesfield this year but had not scored a win. This would by Moloneys night to get the monkey off his back. The front row starting spot was what the young man needed. Moloney lead all 20 laps of the feature to score his 1st win at Waynesfield. Kirk Jefferies followed with a close 2nd with Jared Horstman finishing 3rd. Heats were won by Horstman and Jamie Paul.
The truck feature turned into a bit of a marathon. The race was marked with many yellow flags. Steven Dickerson drove his yellow #05 Ford Ranger to lead from green to checkered to score his 1st ever racing win. A restart with 5 laps to go gave #R27 Randy Crossley ligned up behind Dickerson but as the green flag waved, Dickerson pulled away and took the win ahead of Crossley and #17 Luke Katterheinrich. Heats were won by Scott Shackleford and Dickerson.
The stock car feature saw #82 Chris Douglas and #42 Tim Rostorfer pull out to lead the pack early. Rostorfer went through lapped traffic like a pro and it began to look like he might finally beat the bad luck that has plagued him this year at Waynesfield. The familiar #7b of Jeff Babcock worked his way passed Douglas but could only seem to follow Rostorfer as they went through traffic. A few laps from the end, Rostorfer's car broke and gave the win to Babcock. Douglas finished 2nd followed by #77 Tim Bowen in 3rd. Heats were won by Tim Cornett and Jim Hatcher.
The $1000 to win sprint car feature was dominated by #34 Luke Hall. The battle during the race was for 2nd place as Hall checked out on the pack. As the race ended, #18 Jim Dunham crossed the line in 2nd with #9 Mike Dunlap finishing 3rd. Heat winners were Dunlap and Kyle Conway.
#4 Nate Mailhot soon worked his way to the front of the compact feature. Mailhot has scored multiple wins at Waynesfield this year. #47 Levi Motter had a nice run to come home in 2nd place while #31 Jeff Kimes finished 3rd. Mailhot was also the winner of the heat race.
Saturday June 10th will see UMP Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sprints, Trucks, Mini-Sprints, and Compacts during meet the drivers night #2.
